Digital confusion – There are three main reasons:
A. The surface of the protective film is damp or stained with cutting fluid (or other conductive particles).
Treatment: Wipe the surface of the ruler and the protective film with a dry cloth slightly dampened with absolute ethanol or aviation gasoline. Gently twist a small drop of absolute ethanol or aviation gasoline (be careful not to drip too much, otherwise the liquid will enter the electronic components causing other problems!)
B. The copper clad plate under the protective film is affected by corrosion and blackening.
Treatment method: Uncover the protective film, polish the surface of the copper strip with high-grade rubber or metallographic sandpaper, and clean it.
C, The battery is not enough – treatment: replace a new battery.

Quality is cery good, especially for the price. Accuracy is enough for hobby use. Pictures have an older model for comparisson. The older model lasted 5+ years and recently started to randomly show very high numbers, that may have been due to cold exposure or just age. I expect the new model to last equally long. The materials feel the same on both. Only significant difference is the slide feel. The old one feels like sliding through honey or oily surfaces where as the new one feels like dry grippy plastick sliding together. The new one seems to have some dampening material placed between moving parts. Either one still functions the same and works well. I did a comparrisson measurment of the same object and the difference was 0.03mm. Overall the measurment on the same device can deviate about 0.01 to 0.02mm – depending on force applied while measuring or the speed of moving the calippers, slower is more consistent obv. Definitely can recommend for hobby work.

Everything is good except that there is no battery included. You can use it out of the box only as a classic caliper, and to make the scoreboard work, you need to run to the store for a battery.
